Indonesian National Police Public Relations Message to the Ranks Regarding the Security of the 2024 Elections

JAKARTA || The Chief of the Police Security and Order Maintenance (Kabaharkam) of the Indonesian National Police, Police Commissioner General Fadil Imran, led the roll call of the election security forces and public order maintenance (harkamtibmas) for 2024 at the Singa Lodaya Field, Satlat Brimob, Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday (7/2/2024).

Fadil stated that this roll call was aimed at assessing the readiness of personnel, equipment, vehicles, and facilities and infrastructures in securing the elections and public order maintenance 2024 so that they could be conducted effectively, safely, and smoothly.

Fadil explained that elections are a continuity process of governance that is held every five years. Therefore, the Indonesian National Police are responsible for securing the election stages that are currently underway with the Operational Code Mantap Brata 2023-2024.

“Follwing up on this matter, it should be a common focus that the election series has now entered the core stage; we are currently facing a campaign period that will end on February 10, 2024, then entering a cooling-off period on February 11-13, 2024, and subsequently moving to the voting stage on February 14, 2024, which is the climax of the election series followed by vote counting,” Fadil said.

Furthermore, the former Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief stated that dynamics are expected during the elections and that vulnerabilities may occur. For this reason, he asked the police ranks to be ready to anticipate them.

To anticipate the evolving public order and security, Fadil mentioned that the Indonesian National Police had prepared a force of 1,500 personnel with qualifications in riot control, anti-anarchism, bomb squad, counter-terrorism, and CBRN defense.

“As members of the Tribrata (three values of the Indonesian National Police), we must be capable and ready to anticipate any potential security disturbances that may occur and to determine an effective and efficient course of action in creating a conducive, cool, and peaceful situation,” he said.

Fadil also conveyed several points of emphasis for the Indonesian National Police personnel. First, he asked to ensure that equipment and other supporting supplies are in operational readiness.

“Maintain health conditions so that at any time we are ready to perform duties,” he stated.

Next, members were asked to use their time for training and to ensure that members understand the use of equipment and weaponry to be deployed during assignments in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP).

Then, members must also always coordinate and build communication, as well as observe the development of situations so that they are always ready whenever needed.

“Establish communication and sharpen coordination functions with the intelligence function as an early source of information,” he said.

To the leadership elements, Fadil stated, to always monitor and perform daily situation analysis and evaluation in order to always be updated with the latest developments in facing the situation.

“Hold high the ethos of service, the ethos of state administration, and the ethos of institutional ethics as members of Bhayangkara (Indonesian police personnel),” he said.
