Universitas Almuslim is a community-rooted higher education institution located in Bireuen, Aceh, Indonesia. Established with a strong social mandate, the university is committed to expanding access to quality higher education while contributing to long-term human capital development at both regional and national levels.
Guided by its founding philosophy that education is a fundamental driver of societal progress, Universitas Almuslim integrates academic excellence with a deep sense of social responsibility. The institution positions itself not only as a centre of learning, but also as a partner in sustainable development.
As part of its strategic commitment to educational access and equity, Universitas Almuslim has implemented a comprehensive Internal Scholarship Programme benefiting 397 students across a range of academic disciplines. The programme provides tuition fee support of Rp4,000,000 per student per semester, awarded consistently over eight semesters of study. This structure ensures academic continuity from enrolment through to graduation.
From a financial standpoint, the university allocates Rp1.588 billion per semester, amounting to a total investment of Rp12.7 billion over the full duration of the programme. This allocation is fully embedded within the university’s long-term financial planning framework and reflects a sustained institutional investment in education and human development.
Beyond policy and funding, the scholarship programme delivers meaningful impact at the individual level. One beneficiary is Khanza Aulia, a 17-year-old first-year student from Banda Aceh enrolled in the Midwifery Study Programme. Motivated by a desire to serve others, particularly in maternal and child healthcare, Khanza represents a new generation of students whose academic ambitions are strengthened through institutional support.
For students such as Khanza, the scholarship provides not only financial assistance but also psychological assurance, allowing them to focus fully on academic learning, professional skill development, and ethical formation from the outset of their university education.
Rector Dr Marwan, M.Pd, emphasises that the Internal Scholarship Programme is designed as a long-term policy instrument rather than short-term financial aid. The initiative forms part of a broader institutional strategy to produce graduates with strong academic competence, moral integrity, and the capacity to contribute meaningfully to regional and national development.
According to Rusyidi, S.Sos, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Almuslim Foundation, the scholarship policy is deeply rooted in the university’s founding values. Universitas Almuslim was established by and for the community, and its continued commitment to educational access reflects this enduring legacy. The programme continues the vision of the founders of the Almuslim Peusangan Foundation, including Ampon Chiek Peusangan and Tgk Abdurrahman Meunasah Meucap, who placed education at the centre of societal advancement.
Chairman of the Executive Board of the Almuslim Foundation, Tgk H. Munawar Yusuf, further affirms that the scholarship initiative represents the foundation’s moral responsibility to support Aceh’s human development through inclusive and sustainable higher education.
Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Dr drh Zulfikar, M.Si, explains that scholarship recipients are selected through an objective, transparent, and measurable process. Assessment criteria include academic performance, family economic conditions, and active participation in student and character-building activities, ensuring accountability and fairness in programme implementation.
Through its internal scholarship policy and human-centred educational approach, Universitas Almuslim positions itself as an institution that extends beyond academic administration. The university actively fulfils its social responsibility by preparing graduates who are competent, professional, and ready to engage with development challenges at local, national, and global levels.
